Sharjah Central Bus Terminal

Sharjah, Emirats Arabes Unis

The location of the mosque calls for a building that respects the meaning of the context. A roof with soft waves, like dunes extending into the desert, built with forms and materials reminiscent of the traditional silversmith’s craft or old latticework, gives the space a rich contrast of light and shadow. This huge roof will house the waiting area, containing within its geometry a building for passengers’ use that leads to the basement level. The bus station, passenger services and ticket offices are at street level, whereas intercity and international networks are based on the lower level.
