The Linz-based network operator is preparing itself for a climate-friendly energy future with the help of the extremely “smart” building services of its new grid control center. And the striking green facade with the vertical PV strips communicates these sustainability objectives to the outside world.

The steady growth of LINZ NETZ GmbH convinced the company to build a new corporate headquarters on Wiener Straße in Linz. And the identity-defining concept by ATP architects engineers and ATP sustain convinced the decision-makers in the tender process thanks to its particularly environmentally-friendly building and facade technology. The green (photovoltaic) electricity drawn from the building’s own network and a district cooling system with a cooling tower are leading to a significant reduction in lifecycle costs. This is enabling the new building to meet both the EU’s climate objectives and the client’s budgetary targets.

With its new transformer, IT and data center, and modern offices, the multifunctional building ensemble ensures the future supply security of the region. The elegant office building forms a distinctive centerpiece: The two-tone vertical strips above the glazed base enliven the street-facing external envelope, creating a fascinating interplay between light and dark. In addition to this, the facade lends the building its identity and offers a high level of ecological quality by both providing visual comfort and sound protection and feeding the electricity from the PV panels into the building’s own energy grid. The second building in the courtyard is optically enhanced by the vertical planting of its facade with evergreen species that also absorb around seven decibels of noise and 30% of the fine dust particles in the air.
