Bremgartnerstrasse

The city of Zurich is growing and land resources on which to build new structures are becoming increasingly scarce. Additions and extensions in the city center play an increasingly important role for redensification. The corner building on Bremgartnerstrasse from the 1930s shows how we plan to deal with existing residential buildings in the future. We preserved and renovated the existing building and “continued to build” with wood.

Wood as a building material is predestined for this urban and future-oriented construction task. Land consumption and additional sealing of surfaces are counteracted by the addition of storeys. The low dead weight of the building material saves resources while the high degree of prefabrication enables fast construction.

With two additional attic floors, we were able to extend the existing building stock upwards and offer high-quality city apartments that are adapted to today’s needs.
