Municipal Funeral Home in León

León, Spain

The building is buried in a symbolic gesture of change of scale, becoming a tomb of tombs. In this way, it avoids rejection by nearby housing by eliminating its volume, thereby also creating the required privacy and seclusion. The roof, the only visible façade, is flooded with water and reflects the sky as a symbol of heaven. The only elements visible above the surface of the water are skylights, like fingers reaching out to the sun to draw light into the chapel.
